You may ask, what is SEO and why do you need to care about it?

SEO means search engine optimization, this search engine score your website according to readability, content quality, usefulness, authenticity of the content and presents the site ahead in the search engine when the keywords are searched out.

Writing SEO friendly content is necessary because it will determine how well you rank on the search engine, this, however, does not mean you should write for the search engine only. Write topics with your audience in mind as well as search engines. Over 27 million content is posted online every day, how can you write topics that can compete and reach your targeted audience?

• Write relevant content:
Original content with innovative ideas tend to score higher in the search engine. Write posts that are actually helpful to people or generally entertaining and prompt readers to share with their family and friends. It is barely about the quantity, a thousand words of rubbish cannot beat 150 educational and entertaining words. If you write content just for the sake of writing to gain views, the result will be disappointing.

• Make use of keywords:
Pick keywords that apply to your article, include them in the title of the post and then add them to the meta tags and within the article. Keywords are very tricky, when overused, they could discourage readers from bookmarking your site. Also include tags to assist the search engine in making your site more visible.

• Keep your words precise:
People tend to lose interest in extremely long posts with no direction ahead of them. Try to reduce the number of words in your content and get to the point to draw the reader’s attention and keep them coming back. Use bullet points and make your articles neater and well-spaced.

• Be critical:
Ater presenting your article, give your point of view, don’t just follow hook, line and sinker. This will give your article and edge over others the readers might have encountered.

• Give credit:
When you, conduct research, it is always necessary to give credit to the site by means of a back link so the readers can know where to go for more information, it is also courteous and part of google content policy.

• Name your photos properly before uploading:
Uploading photos with names such as “IMG36637478774” will not help the search engine optimization, rather, it will reduce the scores of the website. It is necessary to save the image with the appropriate keyword to help increase the ranking and be easier to find. Also, use smaller but not low quality resolution photos.

• Proof read content before publishing:
it can be difficult to proofread your own article, so it is advised to use a good proofreader such as Grammarly or Ginger, they are costly, but are worth the cost.

• Insert add-ons for easy sharing:
Social media is a good place to share content. When readers visit your site, they may want to share with their social media platforms. Installing these add-ons will make this easier for your readers.

These are a few tips I have used, feel free to comment and share yours, don’t forget to share with your friends as well, you may be helping somebody.
